New album BIG FUNK BAND out now

BIG FUNK BAND out now on RSB Records

Best known for their original ‘wall-to-wall’ instrumental Jazz Funk, the London-based Redtenbacher’s Funkestra are excited to share Big FUNK Band which follows 2020’s well received The Hang. The latter has accumulated over 500,000 streams on Spotify since its release last fall and spent multiple weeks on the top of the Roots Music Report’s weekly funk charts.

As Redtenbacher describes it, the concept of Big Funk Band was to feature different drummers and instrument combinations not heard before on a Funkestra record. For example, “Funkberater” was recorded with two drummers and ‘Go East’ was recorded with double bass and electric bass.

The opening track “Crescent City” is an homage to New Orleans, a musical melting pot and the birthplace of Jazz. The album draws from a wide range of influences and was performed by nearly 50 musicians from Austria, Cuba, Germany, Ghana, Italy, The UK, The USA and Venezuela. The multi-nationality of the players is an important factor to Redtenbacher who views music as a unifying force during seemingly fragmented times and world events.

Redtenbacher’s Funkestra have clocked up an impressive 3.5 million streams on Spotify and are proud to present their 13th fully blown album. This is alongside their work as the studio house band for the ‘Masterlink Sessions’ which has led to numerous recordings with a range of artists across a broad range of styles (Grammy winner Mike Farris, Hamish Stuart – original member of the Average White Band now in the Ringo Starr All Stars, Jo Harman and a plethora of young and upcoming artists).
